The first few years of my PhD were funded by Terraspark, a private company focused on the creation of seismic interpretation software called Insight Earth. My main contributions to this project were exploring the feasibility of improving performance via GPUs using OpenCL. This exploration was a success and led to several presentations at Nvidia’s GPU Technology Conference as well as a more streamlined approach to port other filters and calculations to the GPU.
After this work was completed I began to look at filtering techniques for seismic data and created a wavelet-based implementation to reduce noise. This was planned to continue onto a more refined curvelet-based approach, but was unfortunately cut short due to Terraspark being acquired by a larger company (CGG) which would not fund a graduate student.
